Oklahoma State Department of Education Investigates Allegations of Abuse at Hugo School District

Enid, OK — The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has launched an investigation into allegations of abuse within the Hugo School District, following a complaint received by local law enforcement. According to a press release issued by OSDE on Saturday afternoon, the complaint referenced repeated infractions, prompting immediate action.

State Superintendent Ryan Walters expressed his concern over the allegations, emphasizing the importance of student safety. “I am deeply troubled by the allegations out of Hugo today, and greatly appreciate local law enforcement for immediately bringing the issue to our attention,” Walters said. “The safety of Oklahoma students is our top priority, and our public schools and their employees will have the resources they need to protect students.”

In response to the allegations, the Hugo Public Schools administration confirmed that five employees had been placed on administrative leave. Superintendent Brandy Blalock addressed the matter in a statement on social media, noting that the district is cooperating with both law enforcement and OSDE during the investigation.

“Recently, we received an allegation of misconduct by five Hugo school employees,” Blalock wrote. “The school district is conducting an internal investigation and cooperating with law enforcement. Because this is a personnel matter, I am unable to share additional information at this time — except that the employees involved have been placed on administrative leave and are not on campus.”

Blalock reassured the community that the safety of students remains the district’s primary concern. “There is nothing more important to Hugo Public Schools than the well-being of our students,” she stated. “Their safety is our greatest responsibility and utmost priority.”

The district has pledged transparency throughout the investigation, with Blalock vowing to keep the public informed as more details emerge. “When we work together, we can ensure we provide the best and safest educational experience for all students,” she concluded.

As the investigation progresses, both local law enforcement and the OSDE are committed to ensuring a thorough review of the situation. The outcome of the investigation will determine the next steps for those involved, while the district continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its students.
