STIGLER, Okla. — Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of 56-year-old Tina Mitchell, whose body was discovered in rural Stigler on the evening of April 5. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is leading the inquiry into the crime, which is believed to involve both gunshot and stab wounds.
According to authorities, the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a call about a shooting around 6:00 p.m. on Cass Road, located in a rural area near Stigler. Upon arrival, deputies found Mitchell deceased at the scene, suffering from multiple gunshot and stab wounds. She was pronounced dead by responding emergency personnel.
OSBI investigators quickly identified Billy Mitchell, 49, as a suspect in the case. Authorities say Mitchell fled the scene before deputies arrived. Jack Swanda, 39, was found on the property when law enforcement arrived. Swanda had sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Both men were later arrested and taken into custody at the Haskell County Jail. Swanda’s injuries have not been fully disclosed by officials, though it is believed they may be related to the violent altercation.
The investigation took another turn the following day when OSBI agents, along with HCSO deputies, conducted a search of the property. During this search, a second body was discovered. The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for examination to determine the cause and manner of death. Details regarding the identity of the second victim have not yet been released.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is continuing its investigation into the case, and authorities have not yet revealed whether the second body is linked to the homicide of Tina Mitchell or if there are additional individuals involved.
Both suspects remain in custody as of April 6, and further details may emerge as the investigation progresses. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to uncover more about the events that led to the tragic death in Stigler.
