Seven Shot in Midtown Oklahoma City Near The Collective Food Court

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Seven people were injured in a shooting Monday night near The Collective, a popular food court in Midtown. The incident occurred in the intersection just outside the food court, which was crowded with patrons enjoying the evening.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as gunshots rang out, causing panic among those nearby. Gysheilla Jangha, who had just left the area shortly before the shooting, recounted feeling growing tension in the air. “I could kind of tell there was something happening,” Jangha said. “There wasn’t really anyone at the door manning the door to kind of regulate what was going on.”

In addition to the seven shooting victims, two others were injured by flying glass when the front window of The Collective shattered. Nicholas Johnson, who was at a nearby bar when the shots were fired, recalled hearing the gunshots and witnessing the aftermath. “People were running everywhere. It was, it was pretty loud,” Johnson said. “I was behind the trash and between both of the bars, and that’s where I could see the lady, laying there on the ground, and then the glass being shot out in front of The Collective.”

The food court’s staff acted quickly to help patrons take cover as the violence unfolded just outside. “People were running into The Collective, and the staff was getting them and making sure they were staying as safe as possible in there,” said Nathan Wiewel, spokesperson for The Collective.

The business had hired additional security for the evening, due to the combination of the NBA playoff game and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Despite these efforts, the violence occurred on the sidewalk and intersection, areas outside of the food court’s direct control.

As of now, the authorities have not released further details regarding suspects or a potential motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and the community is left grappling with the aftermath of a violent night in a normally bustling part of Oklahoma City.
