Two Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit and Drug Bust in Canadian County

Canadian County, OK — Two individuals were taken into custody following a dramatic police pursuit in Canadian County on Sunday afternoon that culminated in a significant drug bust.

According to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 3:44 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, when a deputy observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations while traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near Calumet Road. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over, continuing to drive eastbound.

After approximately two miles, the deputy informed dispatch of the situation and requested backup, as the driver continued to disregard commands to stop. As the chase progressed, several law enforcement vehicles set up on the entry ramp at the Country Club Road exit. However, the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of 115 mph while weaving through heavy traffic in an apparent attempt to evade capture.

Authorities reported that the driver then attempted to turn into the median, squeezing between a tractor-trailer and the median cable barriers, continuing at high speeds. As the vehicle approached the weigh station, deputies performed a successful Tactical Vehicle Intervention (T.V.I.), commonly known as a pit maneuver. This maneuver forced the vehicle off the interstate and brought it to a stop in a grassy area near the road.

Both individuals in the vehicle were arrested on the scene. A subsequent investigation revealed a substantial drug stash, leading to charges related to illegal drug possession and trafficking. The names of the suspects have not been released at this time.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drug bust and the events leading up to the pursuit. Authorities have yet to disclose the specific drugs recovered during the operation.

No injuries were reported in connection with the pursuit or the subsequent arrest, though the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of high-speed chases and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to keep communities safe from drug-related crimes.
