GUTHRIE, OKLA. – The Guthrie Police Department has released body camera footage from a tense standoff on Saturday, where Larry Chandler, a man suspected of shooting his wife five times, was confronted by officers after a violent altercation.
The footage, which captures a 45-minute standoff, shows officers surrounding Chandler, who had barricaded himself while holding a gun. The situation escalated after Chandler allegedly shot his wife during an argument earlier that day. The confrontation between Chandler and the police was marked by a series of desperate pleas from the suspect, urging officers to end his life.
In the video, officers can be heard repeatedly demanding that Chandler put down his weapon: “Let me see your hands! Let me see your hands! Put the gun down,” they yell. Despite these commands, Chandler refused to comply, instead shouting, “Kill me! Kill me!” in apparent distress.
According to police reports, the violence began when Chandler and his wife got into a heated argument. The situation turned violent when Chandler reportedly struck his wife with a stick, before allegedly drawing a gun and shooting her five times. The woman’s condition has not been publicly disclosed, but she was transported to a hospital after the incident.
As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, one officer can be heard on the footage saying, “He’s saying ‘kill me, kill me, kill me.’” Officers continued their efforts to calm Chandler, urging him to surrender peacefully. “Larry, bro, come on, let’s just talk about it. I just need you to put that gun down,” one officer pleaded. Despite the prolonged standoff, Chandler remained defiant, repeating his demand for officers to kill him.
Neighbor Rhonda Robinson, who spoke with Chandler’s wife earlier in the day, described the scene when she returned home to find police swarming the neighborhood. “Usually it’s pretty quiet. Kids play outside. It’s really a nice neighborhood,” Robinson said, visibly shaken by the events.
After several tense minutes, Chandler eventually complied with officers’ demands and raised his hands, signaling his surrender. Officers quickly moved in to arrest him without further incident. “We got him, we got him, good job, Larry,” an officer said as Chandler was taken into custody.
Chandler now faces multiple charges, including shooting with intent to kill. Authorities have not released further details regarding the condition of his wife. The incident has shocked the tight-knit community, leaving many residents struggling to come to terms with the violence that unfolded in their otherwise peaceful neighborhood.
The Guthrie Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident as they await further updates on the victim’s condition.
