Norman Teacher Wanted on Charges of Enabling Child Sexual Abuse

Norman, OK – The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is currently searching for Valerie Ann Hartless, a 47-year-old teacher with Norman Public Schools, who is facing felony charges related to enabling child sexual abuse. A warrant for her arrest was issued on Thursday, March 27, 2025, after an investigation into allegations surrounding her ex-husband, Michael Hogue, 59.

According to court documents, the allegations date back to incidents between July 2015 and December 2016, when Hogue is accused of inappropriately touching Hartless’ 15-year-old daughter in their home. Despite the initial investigation, charges were not filed in 2017, and the case was closed. However, in 2025, the CCSO reopened the investigation, leading to the recent arrest warrant for both Hogue and Hartless.

Court records reveal that the victim, the daughter of Hartless, confided in her mother about the abuse, but Hartless reportedly brushed off her daughter’s concerns. According to the affidavit, Hartless told a friend that there was nothing she could do about the situation until her divorce from Hogue had been finalized. As a result of her alleged inaction, Hartless now faces charges for enabling the abuse.

The Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office has issued a warrant for Hogue as well, charging him with lewd or indecent acts to a child under the age of 16. Investigators are actively working to locate both individuals.

Hartless is believed to be traveling in one of two vehicles: a black 2017 Ford F-150 with the license plate number PSJ778, or a black 2013 Ford Edge with the license plate number KAQ802. Authorities are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the CCSO at 405-701-8888.

This case has raised significant concerns about the responsibility of individuals in positions of trust, such as teachers, in responding to allegations of abuse. As the investigation continues, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for assistance in locating Hartless to ensure the case can move forward in the legal system.
