Logan County Deputies Involved in Fatal Shootout with Suspect

Guthrie, OK – A violent altercation between law enforcement and a suspect in Logan County resulted in the death of 45-year-old Jeremy Dean Barnett following a domestic violence call on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence near Midwest Blvd and Seward in south Guthrie, responding to reports of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with a woman at the home. However, Barnett opened fire on law enforcement officers, sparking a deadly shootout.

During the exchange of gunfire, two deputies, Captain Tom Kutay and Deputy Kayoomars Niroomandi, were struck by bullets. Both deputies were quickly transported to a local hospital and, after receiving treatment, were released with minor injuries.

As the situation escalated, Major Greg Randolph, a third deputy at the scene, returned fire at Barnett. The suspect was shot and fled the area on foot. Barnett was located a short time later, unresponsive, and was pronounced dead at the scene after backup arrived.

Sheriff’s officials confirmed the fatality and expressed relief that the two injured deputies survived the confrontation. Both Captain Kutay and Deputy Niroomandi are expected to fully recover from their injuries. The incident is currently under investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the domestic dispute or Barnett’s history. However, the sheriff’s office emphasized that the deputies acted in defense of their lives after the suspect opened fire.

This marks the latest in a series of violent incidents involving law enforcement across the state, underscoring the dangers faced by officers as they respond to routine calls.
