OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A routine afternoon took a tragic turn for 17-year-old Tierney Stanley, a student at Putnam City North High School, when she was struck by a car near her bus stop on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred less than a mile from her home, near the intersection of North MacArthur and Fox Run Way.
According to her mother, Lauren McFarland, Tierney called her immediately after the accident. “She calls me and says, ‘Mom, I just got hit by a car.’ I’m in shock, I’m panicked, I’m like, ‘Where are you?’” McFarland recalled.
Tierney was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for road rash, bruising, and swelling on her face, legs, and arms. Despite the pain from her injuries, McFarland described her daughter as determined to push through. “She’s very brave, didn’t want to miss a day. I think she’s still very in shock, but I think that she knows what happens and she just wants to overcome,” McFarland said.
The driver involved in the hit-and-run fled the scene, leaving the teenager injured and terrified. McFarland has been working closely with the Oklahoma City Police Department, which has released limited details about the suspect. Authorities have described the driver as an Asian male in his forties, driving a silver Lexus SUV. Police have stated that they have obtained surveillance footage of the vehicle and are waiting to identify the car’s license plate number.
The hit-and-run has left McFarland feeling both angry and heartbroken. “Just thinking about the person behind the wheel hitting my daughter — it’s unimaginable,” she said. “I just want to know who did this and make sure they face the consequences.”
Tierney’s school, Putnam City North, expressed their concern over the incident in a statement. The district assured the community that counselors were available for both students and staff, offering support during this traumatic time. “We are deeply concerned for Tierney’s health and well-being, and we stand with her family as they navigate through this ordeal,” the statement read.
Despite her injuries, Tierney’s resilience shines through as she continues to maintain her academic focus. McFarland shared that her daughter, known for her straight-A performance in school, is determined not to let the accident derail her education. “She’s very determined,” McFarland said. “She just wants to keep going, and she’s doing everything she can to stay strong.”
The Oklahoma City Police Department continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to come forward. As of now, the driver responsible for the accident remains on the run, and authorities are working diligently to bring them to justice.
Tierney Stanley’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. While the road to recovery may be long, the support of her community and her own resolve to overcome her injuries will undoubtedly aid her on the journey ahead.
