Potential Measles Exposure Reported at Oklahoma City Grocery Store

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has issued a public health advisory after identifying a grocery store in northwest Oklahoma City as a potential exposure site for measles.

The department confirmed that an individual with a confirmed case of measles visited the Aldi Grocery Store located at 6965 NW Expressway on April 6 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The OSDH is urging anyone who was in the store during that time frame to assess their vaccination status and take necessary precautions.

The health department is particularly concerned about individuals who are unvaccinated or unsure of their immune status. OSDH encourages anyone who fits these criteria to submit their contact information through a designated online form. A staff member from the department will reach out to those who provide their details, offering further guidance on steps to take. The department is available to respond between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can spread easily through respiratory droplets. It is especially concerning for those who have not received the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, as well as those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of measles include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash that usually starts on the face and spreads.

Oklahoma health officials are continuing to monitor the situation and are urging the public to stay informed. For the latest updates and additional information on measles cases in the state, residents are advised to visit the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s website at oklahoma.gov/health.

The OSDH is committed to providing timely updates as new information becomes available and ensuring that the public is aware of potential health risks in the community.
