Oklahoma County, Okla. – In his first week on the job, newly elected Oklahoma County Commissioner Jason Lowe wasted no time in addressing one of the county’s most pressing issues—the deteriorating conditions of the Oklahoma County Jail. Lowe, who campaigned on a platform of criminal justice reform, toured the facility to assess its current state, making it clear that improving the troubled institution would be a top priority during his tenure.
Lowe was visibly concerned after witnessing the conditions firsthand, which have long been the subject of scrutiny by both local media and advocacy groups. Over the past several months, the jail has faced a series of failed health inspections, multiple deaths, and reports of inhumane conditions that have drawn widespread attention.
“This is a very important issue for me. My life’s work is criminal justice reform,” Lowe said shortly after his tour. “This is definitely priority number one.”
