WYNNEWOOD, Okla. — A quiet stretch of countryside in Garvin County was transformed into a crime scene Friday, as local authorities launched a double homicide investigation following the discovery of two bodies inside a residence on the property of a marijuana grow operation.
According to the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report at a grow site located on East County Road 1600, just outside of Wynnewood. Sheriff Jim Mullett confirmed that the initial call came from a man on the property who did not speak English. Deputies were able to communicate with him using Google Translate. The man, described by officials as being of Asian descent, informed law enforcement that a killing had occurred.
Upon entering the home on the property, deputies found the bodies of two adult men. One victim was reported to be of Asian descent, while the other appeared to be Hispanic. As of Monday, the identities of the victims had not been released pending next-of-kin notifications and official confirmation by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office.
“There were two deceased individuals inside the home,” said Sheriff Mullett. “This was not an easy scene to assess initially due to the language barrier and the nature of the call.”
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of robbery, though Sheriff Mullett indicated that certain aspects of the scene did not align with a robbery motive.
“There’s some things we’re looking at that don’t appear to be consistent with a robbery,” he said. “But we’re not canceling that out completely.”
As of the weekend, the property remained cordoned off with crime scene tape while investigators continued to collect evidence and piece together a timeline of events. No arrests have been made, and law enforcement has not indicated whether they believe a suspect is still at large.
The marijuana grow operation at the center of the investigation is also under scrutiny. It remains unclear whether the facility was properly registered with the state, as required by Oklahoma’s medical marijuana regulations.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) has joined the case to assist local law enforcement with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward as the search for answers continues.
