Teen Fined for Reckless Driving at Choctaw Creek Park

CHOCTAW, Okla. — An 18-year-old has been fined nearly $600 for reckless driving after performing donuts and speeding in the middle of Choctaw Creek Park on Saturday afternoon. The Choctaw Police Department swiftly identified the individual behind the wheel, whose actions were witnessed by several park-goers, including Dennis Aldridge.

Aldridge, who was present during the incident, described the scene, saying, “Well, when everything started happening, you see the tires beating in the dirt.” The teenager’s reckless driving left deep tire marks in the park’s grass, drawing attention to the potential damage caused by such behavior.

The Choctaw Police Department responded to the incident with a clear message to the community, emphasizing the dangers of off-roading in public spaces. Through a post on their official Facebook page, the department reminded residents of the importance of maintaining public parks and the consequences of damaging them.

“Turfing and damaging public property is not a victimless crime,” the department stated. “Choctaw Creek Park is used daily by residents, families, and visitors. It hosts countless events throughout the year, including holiday celebrations, car shows, craft fairs, and community gatherings.” The park’s parking lots, pavilions, and grassy areas are vital for these events and are integral to the community’s experience.

The police also made it clear that actions have consequences, regardless of the individual’s age. “Whether the individual responsible was 16 or 80 years old, actions have consequences. You cannot damage property and expect there to be no repercussions.” The department expressed respect for the tireless efforts of the Parks Department in maintaining the park, adding that such acts of vandalism were disrespectful both to the workers and the larger community.

While acknowledging that off-roading can be a fun activity, the police reiterated that there are designated areas for it, and public parks are not one of them. The fine imposed on the 18-year-old serves as a reminder of the importance of using public spaces responsibly.

The Choctaw Police Department’s response highlights their commitment to protecting local parks and ensuring that they remain safe and accessible for all who wish to enjoy them. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for respect and consideration for the spaces that belong to the entire community.
