Suspect Leads Choctaw Police on Chase, Caught Pantsless in the Woods

CHOCTAW, Okla. — A late-night traffic stop turned into a lengthy police pursuit on May 26, ending in an unusual arrest after a suspect fled through thick woods and was captured without his pants.

According to the Choctaw Police Department, officers attempted to pull over Curtis Kaulaity Jr. around 10:25 p.m. near NE 23rd and Hiwassee for a broken tail light and headlight. Rather than stopping, Kaulaity allegedly sped off, leading police on a nearly 10-mile chase through eastern Oklahoma County.

“It’s just heavily, heavily wooded out there,” said Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall, noting the challenges officers faced during the pursuit. “You wonder why they’re not stopping.”

The chase ended near NE 36th and Smith, where Kaulaity reportedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into dense woods. Officers said he ran the equivalent of three football fields through thick underbrush. On the opposite side of the wooded area, Oklahoma County deputies were waiting and spotted the suspect—identifiable by his blue shirt and shorts—emerging from the brush.

Body camera footage captured deputies yelling “Danger! Danger! Danger!” as they closed in. Kaulaity attempted to jump a fence but was ultimately caught, missing his pants.

“The woods literally tore the suspect’s clothing off it was so thick,” said Chief Marshall. “The suspect did not stop, and a taser was deployed.”

Authorities later confirmed that Kaulaity had multiple outstanding warrants in Caddo County, including charges for obstructing an officer, second-degree burglary, and assault and battery. Following his arrest, he now faces additional complaints, including endangering others while eluding police and several traffic violations.

Chief Marshall emphasized the importance of routine enforcement. “Making traffic stops matters,” she said.

Kaulaity is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
