Oklahoma City, OK — The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has officially ruled the death of 81-year-old Jerry Gibson a homicide, according to Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) officials.
The incident dates back to October 12, 2024, when Gibson, a resident at a nursing home near SW 59th Street and Ross Avenue, was involved in an altercation with another resident. During the confrontation, Gibson fell and sustained a hip injury. He was subsequently hospitalized and passed away eight days later.
Police were notified of the incident on October 24, 2024, and have been investigating the circumstances surrounding Gibson’s injury and death. On June 3, 2025, the OKCPD announced the Medical Examiner’s ruling of homicide.
The case has now been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed in connection with Gibson’s death.
Authorities have not released the identity of the other resident involved or any further details regarding the altercation. The investigation remains ongoing.
