The sheriff expressed his gratitude that his officers walked away from a potentially deadly encounter with only minor harm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"679\" data-end=\"851\">\u201cDomestic situations are among the most dangerous calls we face, and today, we faced that danger head-on,\u201d Sheriff Devereaux remarked in a statement following the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"853\" data-end=\"1270\">The situation began when deputies arrived at a home near Midwest Boulevard and Seward Avenue in south Guthrie to respond to a domestic violence call. Upon approaching the residence, deputies made contact with a woman inside the house, but she quickly shut the door, prompting the officers to investigate further. As they began to move around the back of the home, they were suddenly met with gunfire from the suspect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1495\">Both deputies were struck by the suspect&#8217;s bullets. A third deputy, who had arrived as backup, returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect fled the scene but was later located and found dead shortly after the exchange.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1497\" data-end=\"1747\">As the deputies were rushed to OU Health for treatment, law enforcement personnel gathered at the hospital to check on their condition. Sheriff Devereaux confirmed that, by the grace of God, both deputies were expected to recover from their injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1861\">\u201cThey\u2019re doing well, with only minor injuries,\u201d Devereaux said, expressing relief that the outcome wasn\u2019t worse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1863\" data-end=\"2004\">Though the deputies&#8217; injuries were not life-threatening, the sheriff acknowledged that the traumatic events of the day would stay with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2114\">\u201cWhile they are fortunate to be alive, this will always be something they carry with them,\u201d Devereaux added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2428\">The incident underscores the inherent dangers faced by law enforcement officers, especially when responding to domestic violence calls, which are often unpredictable and violent.
