Enid, Okla. \u2014\u00a0Newly-released court documents reveal alarming new details in the case of Kevin Cobbs, a former principal and boys’ basketball coach at Southwest Covenant, a private Christian school in Yukon. Cobbs, initially arrested in March on charges of child pornography, was taken into custody again earlier this month after investigators uncovered evidence suggesting he secretly recorded students in a school locker room.<\/p>\n
Cobbs, who was employed by Southwest Covenant at the time of his arrest, was first taken into custody on March 20. Investigators reportedly discovered a nude image of a 16-year-old male student from the school on Cobbs’ phone. Following his arrest, the school immediately fired Cobbs, who had been serving as principal and coaching the boys’ basketball team.<\/p>\n
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West confirmed at the time that the investigation was ongoing and that further charges were likely. “We have these electronic devices that we\u2019re gonna run forensic examinations on, and there\u2019s some other information that we were able to obtain from Mr. Cobbs that we\u2019re gonna go ahead and pursue,” Sheriff West stated in a March interview.<\/p>\n
Indeed, the investigation progressed with new and disturbing findings. On April 3, Cobbs was arrested again, this time facing charges related to voyeurism, also known as a “peeping Tom” charge. According to a recently filed arrest affidavit, investigators uncovered disturbing images and videos stored on Cobbs’ phone, which they discovered during a forensic examination of his Snapchat account.<\/p>\n
In an interview conducted after his initial arrest, Cobbs reportedly allowed investigators to access a password-protected folder on his Snapchat account labeled “My Eyes Only.” The folder contained explicit images of male students in the school’s locker room, focusing primarily on their midsections. Investigators also found a video showing male students from the chest down in the locker room. Cobbs allegedly admitted to taking these images intentionally and acknowledged sharing them with others via Snapchat.<\/p>\n
When questioned about the images, the affidavit states that Cobbs “nodded and hung his head,” indicating his acknowledgment of the intentional nature of his actions. He further admitted to sending the explicit photos to others, according to the document.<\/p>\n
The discovery of these additional materials has shocked both the local community and the school. Southwest Covenant, which is affiliated with the Christian faith, swiftly severed ties with Cobbs following his March arrest. Parents, students, and staff members have expressed outrage and disbelief at the allegations, with many expressing concerns about the safety and trust placed in the school\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n
Cobbs now faces multiple charges related to child exploitation, including possession of child pornography and voyeurism. The Canadian County District Attorney\u2019s Office is continuing to investigate the case, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges or further victims coming forward.<\/p>\n
