They just kind of pop up out of nowhere,\u201d Morris remarked. He described how the hole quickly grew to about five or six feet across by Saturday afternoon, with no sign of slowing down. By Monday, the hole had expanded to a length of 13 feet, 2 inches, raising alarm among neighbors who feared further damage to the street and surrounding properties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"1270\">Morris, who has lived in the area for several years, expressed his worries for the residents living near the corner of Reno Avenue. \u201cWe were not too concerned until it started to take out the rest of the street,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were worried about those guys down on the corner more than anything, just because they\u2019re right on the street, right on their backyard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1832\">The sinkhole\u2019s growing size prompted calls to the City of Oklahoma City for clarification. A spokesperson from the city indicated that while the cause of the sinkhole has yet to be determined, it could be related to a recently-installed gas line. \u201cThey\u2019ve been doing road work up and down that other side of the road for the past year or two,\u201d said Morris, noting the ongoing construction in the area. The city&#8217;s response suggests that the new gas line installation may have inadvertently caused a shift in the ground, contributing to the sinkhole&#8217;s formation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1834\" data-end=\"2220\">The portion of Reno Avenue affected by the sinkhole is maintained by the City of Oklahoma City.
